Techrise 2.0: Empowering the Next Generation of Cybersecurity Professionals in Abia State

The future of technology is built by those who are prepared for it and Techrise 2.0 was a bold step toward preparing that future.

From September 29th to December 20th, I had the privilege of contributing as a cybersecurity instructor under the Abia State Government’s Techrise Initiative, implemented in partnership with LearnFactory Nigeria. Techrise 2.0 was a large-scale digital skills program, engaging over 850 students across the entire cohort, with participants enrolled in multiple technology tracks.

The journey officially began on September 29th with the onboarding of the camping students, setting the stage for weeks of intensive learning, growth, and transformation. The program concluded with a memorable graduation ceremony on December 20th, marking the successful completion of an impactful journey.

This was more than a training program, it was a movement.

The Vision Behind Techrise 2.0

Techrise 2.0 was designed to bridge the digital skills gap and equip young talents in Abia State with industry-relevant digital and cybersecurity skills. At a time when cyber threats are rising globally, the demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals has never been greater.

The initiative focused on:

• Building practical, industry-relevant skills

• Preparing participants for real-world digital challenges

• Creating pipelines of job-ready tech professionals

• Empowering youth for global digital opportunities

From Onboarding to Mastery: The Learning Journey

Within the broader 850-student Techrise 2.0 cohort, over 103 students were enrolled across the on-site training tracks. Due to the high level of interest in cybersecurity, the cybersecurity track was split into two classes to ensure effective learning and proper engagement. I had the responsibility of training over 50 students in Cybersecurity Class B, delivering hands-on instruction and mentorship throughout the program.

Many students came in with little or no prior exposure, but with strong determination and a willingness to learn.

The emphasis went beyond theory—students were trained to think and operate like cybersecurity professionals.

By the end of the program, these students were no longer beginners—they were emerging professionals, ready to take the next step in their tech careers.

December 20 – Graduation Day

The program officially concluded on December 20th with a graduation ceremony that celebrated:

• Commitment

• Discipline

• Skill acquisition

• Personal transformation

The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, whose attendance underscored the state government’s commitment to youth empowerment, digital skills development, and technological advancement.

Seeing students graduate across the Techrise 2.0 cohort, including over 100 cybersecurity students, was a proud moment, not just for the students, but for everyone involved in making Techrise 2.0 a success.
